​    What if every time someone said the word “God” or “Lord” you heard the words “Great Spirit”, “the Ocean of life”, “the powers that Be”, “fate”, ”the True friend” or even Nature, Possibilities, Oneness, or whatever helps you grow? Could it be any worse than thinking, when people say “Lord” or “the Lord” that they are referring to a mean man “up there” in Heaven with a long white beard throwing thunderbolts at you? We all have somewhat different understandings of the words we use, so what could be so wrong with choosing a slight “translation” into terms that we can stomach? Especially if it helps us all to get along.

Some of the terms above may contribute to a poetic, royal quality and an elevated discourse that endures through the ages, but are sometimes a cumbersome distraction for modern readers.
