Unity Talks & Neighborhood Circles Topics
Humanity is one family--
you and I included!
Unity is the greatest remedy,
a mighty tool to heal our world.
In our Neighborhood Circles, we share our ideals and connections of peace and spirit, together with music, personal support and social sharing. All are welcome and encouraged to bring their own unifying readings of inspiration, hope and devotion. Together we can support each other, pray for our troubles, do good and care for our neighborhood.
Unity Talks expand the conversation.

Sharing thoughts for Community
Unity Talks include the following for Good Conversations:
- Diversity – Friends, neighbors, co-workers, members of community groups, strangers.
- The idea is to involve both people who share similar views -- and people who don't.
- A structure –.A set beginning and ending time. usually about 1- 1 1/2 hours.
- A Host who introduces the simple agreements and process, and keeps time.
- Fair sharing: Chances, both at the start and at the end, for each person in the group to speak in turn without interruptions or feedback if they so desire. Not speaking is fine too.
A Set of Agreements for participants may include :
Hosts may ask:
• (to open up interest & curiosity) Tell me more about…
• This is what I heard you say… is it what you meant?
• (if someone begins advocating for a fixed position) What led you to this point of view?
• (if someone begins campaigning for a candidate) What is most important you in a leader?
• (if there is agreement but little diversity) What if the opposite were true?

- Open-mindedness: We listen to and have patience with all points of view.
- Acceptance: We suspend judgement as best we can.
- Curiosity: We seek to understand rather than persuade.
- Discovery: We question old assumptions, look for new insights.
- Sincerity: We speak for ourselves only, about what has personal heart and meaning.
- Brevity: We go for honesty and depth but don't go on and on.

For our Hawaiian Communities and Others too--
I. Our Lives in Community:
What is your faith or vision for the future?
What matters to Hawaii-- what is important to preserve? What is worth doing? What matters to us & our world? What unites us as Hawaiians? How do we create a better life for our children? What does the "aloha" spirit mean to you and how does it apply to your/our life? Stories of Aloha and how they affected your life.
What is the American Dream to you and how might (or might not) it apply to us here here in Hawaii?
Tell about a time when you felt "This is what democracy looks like!"
What does "We the People" mean in your life?
What can we do to make a difference?
What does freedom mean to you?
II. In Support of Personal Growth
Inner growth-- Is a new paradigm needed?
How can our daily lives support our own and others' personal and spiritual growth?
Dealing with challenge and change, supporting healthy communication, and staying serene in a maxed-out world
The work of marriage as partnership
What is the most valuable thing your parents gave you?
III. Virtues, Plans, sharing
Community Plans, etc., eg., Children, Youth, Parenting Classes, etc. needed or to come.
